The safari guides at African Photography Safaris are at the heart of every trip. Alan & Kaleel, two professional wildlife photographers who together bring over 25 years of safari photography experience to our guests.
“…Our safaris are as much about positive impact as they are about experience.”
Our Maasai wildlife guides, Moses and James have lived and worked in the Maasai Mara all of their lives. All are passionate about wildlife, photography, and creating relaxed, ethical, and unforgettable safari experiences.
Alan & Kaleel’s bios are already here on our site. We’ll spare you the detail of their questionable life choices and obsessions again! But, you can check them out here if you want to read their stories.

Meet Safari Guide, Titimet ‘Moses’ Nampaso
Moses is one of Kenya’s most highly qualified safari guides, combining unmatched expertise with a lifelong connection to the Mara. Born and raised in the heart of the Maasai Mara, he grew up herding livestock and navigating the bush. He developed an intimate understanding of the landscape, wildlife, and local cultures that now defines his guiding philosophy.
After learning his craft, Moses formally qualified from the Koyiaki Guiding School in Narok County. He went on to work as a guide at a camp in Naboisho Conservancy where Alan & Kaleel first met him. They became good friends and kept in touch ever since despite the 4,500 miles distance!
After further study he attained his silver guiding qualification, Moses worked on a freelance basis as well as becoming the Head Guide at House in the Wild in Enonkishu Conservancy.
But, Moses’ lifelong ambition was to own and run his own camp and in 2020 this became a reality. There are very (very!) few Maasai who own and manage their own camps so this is an absolutely extraordinary achievement. In 2025 Moses achieved the incredible KPSGA Gold guiding qualification – the highest level in the country. Moses has also qualified as an instructor with FGASA in South Africa. These achievements reflect his commitment to excellence, safety, and delivering incredible ethical wildlife experiences.
Today, Moses is much more than a guide. He is the owner and proprietor of Mattikoko Safari Camp in the Lemek Conservancy, a mentor and trainer for aspiring guides, a passionate conservation advocate, and a trustee of a conservancy. It’s fair to say Moses is doing everything he can to ensure that the Mara’s wildlife and ecosystems are protected for generations to come.

Meet Safari Guide, James Tuleto Sengeny
James brings a huge amount of experience to our wonderful team, nearly 30 years of Maasai Mara guiding and conservation!
His childhood was spent in the bush, herding cattle and learning to read the land long before he became a guide. As he grew older, he went through traditional Maasai rites of passage, learning about the foundations of Maasai culture, from the use of traditional weapons such as bows, arrows, and spears, to the importance of storytelling, listening to nature, and learning from elders and grandparents.
These early experiences sparked a deeper curiosity about the natural world and led him to explore its scientific side. James became increasingly fascinated by birds, animal behaviour, and the relationships between wildlife, seasons, and habitats. Over the years, he has watched the Maasai Mara change with the cycles of rain and drought, and experienced first-hand how these seasonal shifts shape the movement and behaviour of wildlife.
Growing up this way gave him a deep respect for the plants, animals, and ecosystems around the Maasai Mara and an appreciation for the natural circle of life. This respect sits at the heart of his guiding. He uses his knowledge of the land to position guests in the right places at the right times, increasing their chances of meaningful wildlife encounters rather than rushed sightings.
James also believes strongly in communication. He takes time to understand what his guests value and hope to experience to create more thoughtful safaris. Throughout his life, he has gained knowledge and skills that he is very passionate about sharing. He remains deeply motivated and takes great pride in the extraordinary wildlife and culture of the Maasai Mara.
James has had a huge impact on the rest of the team, he was a mentor to Moses when he began his guiding career! He also regularly worked with Richard Despard Estes, author of one of the most authoritative and definitive books on African Mammals and cornerstone reading for ecologists and guides.
The African Photography Safaris Team Ethos

Our August 2025 guests with Kaleel on the left and James and Moses on the right. Alan? Taking the photo!
Together, Alan, James, Kaleel and Moses find as much joy in the smaller residents of the Maasai Mara. It’s not all about the lions and the elephants! They’re often enthusing as much about the ant-lions and leopard tortoises as much as the big cat leopards and lions! They’re always enthusiastic to help and pass on their field-craft knowledge to their guests to help make sense of what they are seeing. It’s never just about the photography!
We know both James and Moses care deeply about the sustainability of the Maasai Mara and its ecosystem, as do we, and our ethos and visions align perfectly. Our safaris are designed to do things properly and together, we have an incredible package that supports wildlife conservation, rangers, the ecosystem, contributes to local employment and genuinely gives back to conservation and the communities while doing things ethically.
Our safaris are as much about positive impact as they are about experience.
In Episode 10 of our African Photography Safaris podcast we chatted with Moses at Mattikoko Safari Camp.
